New Zealand Open Women’s Side Announced for 2019 Trans-Tasman International Series

The New Zealand Open Women’s side to play Australia in the Trans-Tasman International Series this September was announced at the Senior Provincial Championships presentation dinner in Palmerston North this past weekend. The tournament served as a precursor for the selection of New Zealand teams.

New Zealand have not played Australia in a bilateral series since 2016 when they faced off in Port Macquarie, New South Wales. The team last featured at the 2017 World Cup in the UAE.

From that tournament, six players have been retained for this series – skipper Lucille Matthews, vice-captain Regina Lilii, Skye Bowden, Roz McNeill, Amy Rendel and Gemma Krebs. 

Three players will make their debut in this series – Claudia Green, Natasha Van Tillburg and Amberley Parr. Green and Parr previously played for the Under-22 side at the 2017 World Cup.

Melanie Driescher, who will feature for the Women’s Over-30 side at the 2019 Masters World Cup in South Africa this October, was also selected.

The team will assemble in camp on 8 September for the series which takes place from 12-14 September at the Palmerston North Indoor Sports Arena in Palmerston North.
